Curry is a spice mix from the south and south-east of Asia. There are lots of different curry mixes because there is no unique recipe, contrary to what is called curry in the supermarket that has an aroma and flavor very standardized throughout Occident. With this recipe you can prepare a very similar curry mix than the conditioned curry powder. You just have to supply yourself with spices and, most importantly, a coffee grinder to do the job much easier. Remember that you can even give your personal touch. For example, I sometimes add cardamom or vanilla.
I normally prepare curry powder to cook curry rice as the side dish in the meal that I bring to work. I also use it a lot to cook chicken, either the classic chicken curry, or even to season curry chicken that I roast in the oven. It all started the day I bought a coffee grinder. I have never brewed coffee with it, but I have it because it is much cheaper to make icing sugar than to buy it. I also use it to grind spices like cumin to add a pinch to my gazpacho or, of course, to prepare this curry powder. Since then, with the amount of icing sugar and spices that I have ground, I think I have already amortized my coffe grinder.
